Meet Carlotta
Hi, I’m Carlotta, an archaeological scientist passionate about connecting research with the public. As one of the co-founders of AAF, I am dedicated to making archaeology accessible and relevant to today’s most pressing conversations, from environmental change to the rhythms of everyday life.
I work at LEIZA, a major research museum in Mainz, Germany, where I explore ancient craft and technology and the stories they reveal about human innovation. Before this, I was the Research and Outreach Officer at the Fitch Laboratory, BSA, where I focused on communicating our work, taking part in events such as the Athens Science Festival.
My research centres on ancient craft traditions, and I’m especially interested in creating dialogue between modern craftspeople and archaeologists around shared techniques, material knowledge, and histories of making. This approach has shaped collaborations such as my involvement at Ceramic Art London in 2024.
Public engagement sits at the heart of my work. I design and run activities for school groups, refugee communities and I’ve curated public-facing exhibitions at the British Academy’s Summer Showcase. I love inviting people to connect with the past through making, materials, and science.
